Owning macaws sucks sometimes

and doesn't. It is weird to have a pet/companion with the intellect of a young human. If this blog takes off I hope to educate people about what living with one of these fabulous creatures really involves (think three year old child forever).

Red Fronts in particular are sad animals to be aware of, perhaps 150-500 are left in the wild. Its a sobering thought to realize you live with a creature that will one day be extinct its native habitat.

In Bolivia the natives refer to the Red Front as Loro Burro (Donkey Parrot) as they consider them too stupid to talk. This results in the red front not being conserved locally in the pet trade and as a result, being killed off. The red front CAN speak, it just chooses with whom to do so. Human stupidity and hubris with animals knows very few limits.
